Printing Recommendation FOWLER 9 The strongest overall choice for a 1996-98 concept jersey. Robbie Fowler was Liverpool’s leading scorer in 1996/97 with 31 goals in all competitions and one of the defining players of this era. OWEN 18 The standout choice for the 1997/98 side. Michael Owen exploded onto the scene as a teenager, scoring 23 goals in all competitions and establishing himself as one of England’s brightest young talents. McMANAMAN 7 One of Liverpool’s most influential attacking players throughout both seasons. Steve McManaman’s dribbling and creativity made him a defining figure of the mid-to-late 1990s side. REDKNAPP 11 A stylish central midfielder and an established Liverpool figure throughout the 1996-98 period, making No.11 a particularly authentic choice for this design era. BERGER 15 Joined Liverpool in 1996 and quickly became popular for his powerful left foot and attacking midfield play. A strong period-specific alternative. COLLYMORE 8 Best suited specifically to the 1996/97 interpretation. Stan Collymore formed the established attacking partnership with Fowler before leaving in the summer of 1997. INCE 17 Best suited specifically to 1997/98. Paul Ince arrived in 1997 and immediately became an important and experienced presence in Liverpool’s midfield. CARRAGHER 23 An excellent early-career option. Jamie Carragher made his first-team breakthrough during this period and wore No.23, the number that would become closely associated with his Liverpool career. FOWLER 9 is the strongest recommendation for the Liverpool 1996-98 Black Concept Jersey.
Unlike COLLYMORE 8, who represents primarily 1996/97, or OWEN 18, whose major breakthrough came in 1997/98, Fowler provides a direct connection across the full 1996-98 period. His 31-goal 1996/97 campaign was particularly outstanding, including goals throughout Liverpool’s run to the Cup Winners’ Cup semi-finals.
For something more distinctive, OWEN 18 would be the strongest alternative—the No.18 is especially evocative of the teenage Owen breakthrough period before his later association with No.10.
