The Youth Real Madrid 2014-15 Third L/S Kit recreates one of the most distinctive shirts of the club’s modern era—the famous black dragon Third kit worn by Carlo Ancelotti’s reigning European champions.
The design uses an elegant all-black base with contrasting white details, finished with a buttoned grandad-style collar. Its defining feature is the large tonal artwork running across the shirt: two mythical creatures—a dragon king and a bird dragon—created by Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. Contemporary descriptions explained the dragon king as representing greatness, glory and power, while the bird dragon represented resilience, determination and agility.
The long-sleeve version gives the design an especially striking appearance, allowing the uninterrupted black colour scheme and subtle dragon artwork to dominate the shirt. The crest was also presented in a monochrome treatment to complement the black-and-white aesthetic.
Released on 26 August 2014, this Third kit was particularly associated with Real Madrid’s 2014/15 UEFA Champions League campaign, although records also classify it as part of the club’s wider third-kit collection for the season.
It belongs to an exceptional squad featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, James Rodríguez, Toni Kroos, Luka Modrić, Marcelo and Iker Casillas.

Historical Significance: Reigning European champions; famous 22-match winning run; iconic black dragon Third kitReal Madrid entered 2014/15 as reigning European champions, having finally captured La Décima the previous season. Carlo Ancelotti strengthened an already outstanding squad with Toni Kroos and James Rodríguez, adding them to an attacking group built around Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
The team produced a remarkable first half of the campaign. After an inconsistent opening, Real embarked on a 22-match winning streak across all competitions, setting a Spanish record at the time. The sequence included major victories against Barcelona and Liverpool and carried Madrid into December in exceptional form.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 61 Goals
Individually, Cristiano Ronaldo produced one of the most prolific seasons of his career.
He finished 2014/15 with 61 goals in all competitions, including an extraordinary 48 in La Liga. In the UEFA Champions League he scored 10 times, while ESPN's competition records show him appearing in all 12 of Madrid’s Champions League matches.
This makes RONALDO 7 particularly appropriate for the black Third shirt: unlike some historically famous shirts where the player association is mostly retrospective, Ronaldo was the central attacking figure of the exact 2014/15 team that wore this design.
UEFA Champions League
As defending champions, Real Madrid again made a deep run in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League.
The black Third kit had been introduced specifically with European competition as a major part of its identity. Contemporary launch coverage described it as the club’s alternative Champions League strip, and the shirt became closely associated with Madrid's attempt to become the first club of the Champions League era to retain the trophy.
Madrid progressed through the group stage before eliminating Schalke 04 in the Round of 16.
The quarter-final brought a Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid, a rematch of the previous season's Champions League final. After a goalless first leg, Javier Hernández scored the decisive late goal at the Bernabéu to send Real into the semi-finals.
There they met Juventus. Real lost 2–1 in Turin before drawing 1–1 at the Bernabéu, leaving Juventus ahead 3–2 on aggregate and ending Madrid's attempt to defend their European title.
World Champions
Real Madrid did add a major international trophy during the season.
In December 2014, Ancelotti's side travelled to Morocco for the FIFA Club World Cup. After defeating Cruz Azul 4–0 in the semi-final, Real faced San Lorenzo in the final in Marrakech.
Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale scored in a 2–0 victory, giving Real Madrid their first FIFA Club World Cup title under that competition's name. The victory was also Madrid’s 22nd consecutive win in all competitions.
Alongside the Club World Cup, Real had already won the 2014 UEFA Super Cup, meaning the 2014/15 season still delivered two international trophies despite narrowly missing out on La Liga and the Champions League.
Real ultimately finished second in La Liga and reached the Champions League semi-finals, making this a season remembered both for extraordinary attacking football and for how narrowly a hugely talented squad missed additional major honours.
Rec. Player Printing Options
Printing Recommendation RONALDO 7 The definitive choice. Cristiano Ronaldo produced an extraordinary 61-goal season, including 48 in La Liga and 10 in the Champions League. The strongest player association with this iconic dragon shirt. SERGIO RAMOS 4 An excellent leadership choice. Ramos was central to Madrid’s defence and scored in the FIFA Club World Cup Final against San Lorenzo. KROOS 8 A particularly strong 2014/15-specific option. Toni Kroos joined that summer and immediately became a key member of Ancelotti’s midfield, making this shirt closely associated with his first Real Madrid season. BENZEMA 9 A classic attacking option. Karim Benzema remained the central striker alongside Ronaldo and Bale and scored six times during Madrid’s Champions League campaign. JAMES 10 One of the most distinctive choices for this exact season. James Rodríguez arrived following his outstanding 2014 World Cup and inherited the prestigious No.10 shirt. BALE 11 A strong big-match option. Gareth Bale remained part of Madrid’s principal attacking trio and scored in the FIFA Club World Cup Final victory over San Lorenzo. MODRIĆ 19 An excellent midfield choice. Luka Modrić was already fundamental to Ancelotti’s midfield, although injury significantly restricted his appearances during the second half of the campaign. MARCELO 12 A classic Madrid option particularly suited to the era. Marcelo was an important attacking presence from left-back and one of the players used to present the dragon shirt at its 2014 launch. ISCO 23 A popular technical midfield option. Isco made 11 Champions League appearances and became particularly important when injuries affected Madrid’s midfield. RONALDO 7 is the defining printing for the Youth Real Madrid 2014-15 Third L/S Kit.
The numbers alone make the connection exceptional: Cristiano Ronaldo scored 61 goals across all competitions, including 48 La Liga goals and 10 UEFA Champions League goals.
The black dragon shirt also comes from the heart of Ronaldo’s peak Real Madrid period. He entered the campaign as the leading player of the reigning European champions and remained the focal point of an attack featuring Bale and Benzema.
For alternatives, JAMES 10 and KROOS 8 are especially attractive because 2014/15 was the first Real Madrid season for both players, making their printing highly specific to this shirt's era. BALE 11 is another strong choice, particularly because of his goal in the FIFA Club World Cup Final.
