The PAOK FC 1998-99 Home Retro Football Shirt recreates the classic black-and-white strip worn by the Thessaloniki club during the 1998/99 Alpha Ethniki season.

The design features PAOK’s traditional black-and-white vertical stripes across the body, but adds one of the shirt’s most distinctive details on the sleeves: contrasting horizontal black-and-white striping. A black V-neck collar finished with fine white detailing completes the unmistakable late-1990s appearance. Contemporary kit records confirm this specific striped design as PAOK’s 1998/99 home shirt.

The shirt is closely associated with a PAOK side featuring players such as Kostas Frantzeskos, Giorgos Georgiadis, Vassilis Borbokis, Panagiotis Kafes and Zisis Vryzas. It represents a season in which PAOK recovered from a difficult beginning to finish strongly and secure European qualification.

With its unusual sleeve treatment and traditional black-and-white body, the 1998/99 home shirt is a particularly distinctive piece from PAOK’s late-1990s era.

  • Season Information

    Season/Year: 1998/99
    Club: PAOK FC
    Country: Greece
Competition: Alpha Ethniki / Greek Cup / UEFA Cup
    Kit Type: Home
    Stadium: Toumba Stadium
    League Finish: 4th
League Top Scorer: Kostas Frantzeskos – 8 goals
Season Top Scorers: Kostas Frantzeskos & Panagiotis Kafes – 8 goals each
European Qualification: Qualified for the following season’s UEFA Cup

PAOK’s 1998/99 campaign was the club’s 40th consecutive season in the top flight of Greek football. It proved to be a turbulent year in the dugout, with Oleg Blokhin, Angelos Anastasiadis and Arie Haan all taking charge at different stages of the campaign.

Despite that instability, PAOK recovered to finish fourth in the Alpha Ethniki, behind Olympiacos, AEK Athens and Panathinaikos. The fourth-place finish was enough to secure qualification for the following season’s UEFA Cup.

One of the central figures was Kostas Frantzeskos, the celebrated Greek attacking midfielder and free-kick specialist. He finished as PAOK’s leading league scorer with eight goals. Young midfielder Panagiotis Kafes also reached eight goals across all competitions, sharing the club’s overall top-scoring mark with Frantzeskos.

PAOK also competed in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup, entering at the second qualifying round. Their opponent was Rangers. PAOK lost the first leg 2–0 at Ibrox before holding the Scottish club to a 0–0 draw at Toumba, resulting in a 2–0 aggregate elimination.

The Greek Cup campaign reached the Round of 16. PAOK had earlier recorded a 5–0 victory over Aetos Skydras but were eventually eliminated following a 1–0 defeat against Panserraikos.

The season nevertheless finished positively in the league. PAOK's late results included a 1–0 away victory over Panathinaikos, followed later by emphatic home wins of 5–1 against Ethnikos Asteras and 3–0 against Panionios. The fourth-place finish ensured that European football would return to Toumba in 1999/00.

  • Rec. Player Printing Options

    Printing Recommendation
FRANTZESKOS 10 The strongest choice for this shirt. Kostas Frantzeskos was PAOK’s leading league scorer with eight goals and one of the club’s most recognisable players of the late 1990s.
VRYZAS 9 A classic attacking option. Zisis Vryzas was an important Greek forward from this PAOK generation and later became even more closely associated with both the club and Greek football.
GEORGIADIS 7 A strong attacking choice from the era. Giorgos Georgiadis brought creativity and attacking quality and was an established Greek international during his PAOK period.
KAFES 8 An excellent younger-player option. Panagiotis Kafes scored eight goals across the campaign, sharing PAOK’s overall season scoring lead despite being at an early stage of his career.
BORBOKIS 2 A strong defensive option. Vassilis Borbokis was an experienced Greek international and an important member of PAOK’s defensive group during this period.

PAOK’s late-1990s shirt numbering is less consistently documented than modern fixed squad-number systems. The options below reflect numbers associated with the players during this period; for strict match-specific reproduction, the exact match should be checked before printing.

FRANTZESKOS 10 is the most representative printing for the PAOK FC 1998-99 Home Retro Football Shirt.

Kostas Frantzeskos was one of the defining Greek players of PAOK’s late-1990s generation and finished 1998/99 as the club’s leading Alpha Ethniki scorer with eight goals. His technical ability — particularly his reputation as an exceptional free-kick specialist — makes him one of the players most strongly associated with this period of PAOK history.

For a younger-player option directly connected to the season, KAFES 8 is particularly interesting, while VRYZAS 9 provides another highly recognisable PAOK name from the era.
